Our Vacation August 2008

We're back from vacation! Today's our last day before work and school gets back in full swing.  I wanted to send out something to update everyone on our vacation.  I would have to say besides our Honeymoon this was the BEST VACATION EVER! Jacob is an excellent traveler and was such a big boy that I couldn't be prouder of him!

Our vacation started on 8/22, Mark had the day off and I took a Personal Day. Jacob spent the night at Grandma June's and Pa Pa (PawPaw) and we got ready for our trip.  Mark and I spent the day together getting ready and we even got our feet manicured!  It was fun!  We tried the new Chop House at the mall which Mark loves! This rest of the weekend we were preparing for our trip.

Monday 8/25:
We left Augusta for Atlanta.  We stayed at Mike, Frances, and Abby's.  We had a nice time despite the rain and anxiety from tomorrow's plane ride.  Jacob swam in their pool, I mean bath tub, and we just hung out at their house. The guys went and got take out and Abby made brownies. Yum!

Tuesday 8/26:
4:45am Wake Up!
I barely sleep that night thinking of the trip. We left for the airport at 5:38am. We tried to be as quiet as possible but as sleepy little Jacob lifted up his head at the door he asked where Uncle Mike was.  Mark told him he was sleeping and so Jacob yells out "MIKE!".  We hit the door and ran before we were caught =)  The drive to the airport was so scary it was pouring rain from that Tropical Storm and people were driving so fast!  I was shaking and had white knuckles when we finally made it to the airport.

Jacob did great at the airport. It was rough getting from parking lot to the terminal. We were on the top of the parking garage so it was pouring on us! Jacob slept on the way to the airport. He wasn't as excited as I thought he would be to see the planes. We road the subway thing and he wasn't thrilled either, of course being woke up that early didn't have any of us that excited.

We found our gate which was right as we got to the B concourse, got a little breakfast and used the bathroom. By that time, we were boarding. The car seat attachment we bought barely fit down the aisle but it was great for carrying bags in the airport. Jacob did well getting in his car seat on the plane but he was upset when I buckled him. He was super during take off. He and I shared a piece of gum and he had a sip of sprite and then went to sleep!! The baby wasn't too pleased with the turbulence and I didn't eat because wouldn't you know I have morning sickness that morning!  Oh did I mention the rain was so bad that we hydroplaned a little on take off?  We didn't find out until we got to Milwaukee that there was a tornado warning as soon as we left Atlanta!

Milwaukee is a smaller airport than Atlanta thankfully!  We were offered assistance from one of the skycaps(?) I think that's what you call them.  When we got to baggage he said "Do you need help?" Mark said "We need all the help we can get!" He got our luggage off the baggage belt, followed us to Enterprise while we got the car, and helped Mark load the car.  We were on our way to Green Bay by 10:00am.

I don't think I'll ever forget my first glimpse of Lambeau we were in the car and looking for our exit and I happened to look right and I saw it over the trees!  Once we left the interstate I called my dad and we made it in time to see the Packers last bit of Public Practice.  It was a relief after all these years and the travel we did to see my dad standing there in his Green Bay shirt right at Lambeau Field!  If I wasn't so tired I think I would have ran to him after I got out of the car.  Jacob saw his Pa Pa (Pop Ah) across the street and was so excited too! We watched practice and then the player's came out signing autographs and riding the bikes across the street. It was really neat.

We ate inside Lambeau Field at Curly's Pub for lunch.  I had BRATWURST! Yum!  After lunch we checked in to the hotel and relaxed.  We went to Walmart and got stuff we needed including a sippy for Jacob as his is somewhere in the Atlanta Airport.  For dinner we got food from Culver's it's a semi-fast food restaurant in Green Bay that is AWESOME!  Mark and I got Pork Tenderloin sandwiches (something I always wanted Mark to have up north).  He loved it.  Jacob had a hamburger meal but as soon as he tasted Daddy's Pork Tenderloin that was it.  He had mostly that for dinner.

To end the night Jacob and Austin had a pillow fight and we called it a night around 8pm.

Wednesday, August 27:
We all had breakfast in the hotel's restaurant.  We went over to Lambeau and took a stadium tour.  We sat in box seats and then went down to the field level.  We went through the same tunnel the Packers go through and they played "Please welcome your 12 time World Champion Green Bay Packers!" Goose bumps I tell you!  When we got to the field, I asked Jacob to reach down and touch the grass and we put our feet on it.  I told Jacob that's where he'd play football one day!  Lambeau is one of the cleanest and nicest stadiums I have ever been to!  I'm not just saying this because I am a Packers fan either! After the tour, we went through the Packers Pro Shop where I could have spent a million dollars if I had it.  Mark, Jacob, and I then went out for Mexican for lunch.  It was the best Mexican food I have ever eaten hands down!  It topped anything I have eaten in Texas, Arizona, anywhere!  Jacob even loved their Quesadillas.  After the boys went down for a nap, I drug my dad to the laundrymat near by to wash some shirts for the game.  Getting the laundry done was a bit of  fiasco but I had fun walking around with my dad.  When we got back the boys were still asleep so I went with Brenda, Austin, and my dad to the Packers Hall of Fame.  I sat at Vince Lombardi's desk!  They have a great kid's area and I was missing Mark and Jacob. I knew Jacob would have so much fan in the cheese playground slide.  About that time, Mark called and they were on their way over!  While I waited for them we continued on the tour, I touched a piece of the goal post from their last Superbowl Victory in New Orleans and saw all 3 Superbowl Trophies! Those are so pretty!  Mark and Jacob showed up and we took Jacob to the kids stuff.  He had a blast.  We went out to a Supper Club for dinner and had steak.  It was an adventure too!

Thursday, August 28: GAME DAY!

On Thursday, we got up and wanted to have a good breakfast.  We drove around a bit and then we checked our GPS and remembered seeing an ad for Grandma's Kitchen.  So we set the GPS and drove 7 miles outside of Green Bay to find what seemed to be Grandma's house!  We turned around and went back in to Green Bay.  We got to see an Apple Orchard but didn't stop because we were so hungry.  We ended up at Culver's again.  Pork Tenderloin sandwiches again!  Yummie!  We then went back to the hotel and swam.  Jacob can now swim with his lifejacket on but holding his breath under water!  Afterwards we went to a Packers Coin and Collectibles store and the boys spent $45 on various Packers Cars and Trucks.  We went back to the hotel and napped and then it was Game Time!  We got dressed and as we went in the hallway we see these 3 crazy Packers walking down the hallway: Austin with Yellow and Green Hair, Brenda in a Packers Hat, and Dad in his usual Packers hat.  Jacob ran back in our room terrified! Once he got over it, we went outside and I bought a Wisconsin Lei and then we went inside for all you can eat bratwurst, hamburgers, and bbq.  After that the sun came out and we were on our way to the game!  We had great seats and had a blast!!!  Jacob did so good!  He was even flirting with these two ladies that were sitting in the row below us! One even blew him a kiss! He loved the balloons that were released after the National Anthem and did good  saying Go Pack Go.  He ate about 50 suckers but I didn't mind as long as we all got to enjoy the game.  The Olympic Swimmer Garrett Weber-Gale was the game's ambassador so it was neat to see him with his Gold Medals!  Jacob also got to play with some of the beach balls that were being bounced around and he was a part of his first stadium waves.  The Packers didn't win the game but I didn't care! I was at Lambeau with my boys! The only thing that would have made it more perfect would have been snow and 10 degree weather! Ha! No I'll take August air conditioning over blizzard weather any day at Lambeau! I'm thankful it didn't rain and that I got to finally share the experience with my dad.

Friday, August 29:
We headed out of Green Bay with tears flowing! I miss that place already!  I'm not sure when we'll make it back but I know I want to go back.  We said goodbye to Dad, Brenda, and Austin outside of Milwaukee and got to the airport.  We had lunch there and got back on our plane to Atlanta. Jacob fell asleep when we made it to cruising altitude again and didn't wake up until we were descending in to Atlanta.  We decided to drive home and were back in Augusta by 9:30pm.  It was a long day but we're glad to be home.

----------
This weekend we've hung around the house with the exception of going out to lunch with Mark's Parents on Saturday and my mom on Sunday.  We're getting ready to head over to Mark's Parents to have Labor Day dinner.  I've posted a bunch of pictures on our photo site.  I hope everyone has a great labor day and whenever you see the Packers G you say GO PACK GO! because Jacob and I always will.  (Mark's warming up to it)!
